A note from one of the dawn riders:

Who are the dawn riders? A small group of CAMWESTies who set out every Sunday morning at 6.30am for a quick ride to Richmond-Windsor and back. We make it home by 9.00 am, except for last Sunday...

I knew there was something odd as I pedalled down the M2 to meet Danny at the Seven Hills roundabout -- there was a thick frost all around the creek. I did have four layers of clothing on, but my fingers felt icy inside my gloves. We sped off from the roundabout a couple of minutes later, eyeing the low lying fog into which which we would soon swoop. The temperature dropped ten degrees as we did so, and my toes in their thick woollen socks started protesting. No ordinary fog, this.

After a few kms, I noticed ice on my gloves, my wind-breaker, my helmet, shoes and legs. Where in the world did this come from? It was not just me, for my bike had a nice bumpy surface of ice on its forward surfaces -- handlebars, forks, frame. We were riding through an ice fog! Small particles of ice that gathered all over us as we rode through. Early sunshine made no difference, so we shivered our way into Windsor, cracked the ice off our bodies and ducked inside the only cafe open for coffee and hot chocolate. The ride back, some time later, was comparatively tropical.

Want to join us? We ride most Sundays from the Seven Hills roundabout at 6.30am, but check with Danny Hannan first.
