Here are some online maps and tools which can be used to help work out the best ways to get from one point
to another. Several of the below sites either use Open Street Map
exclusively or via selection. Open Street Map (OSM) is a map of the world, created and edited by community members.
The products below highlight a few different ways that people have chosen to render or use some of this
data.
These links show different renderings of the cycling
related infrastruce captured by community members in Open Street Map. Each map is centered on the Parramatta area.
Note that some of the 'shared paths' marked on this map appear
to be a little optimistic. Some are no more than narrow footpaths. Use as a guide, not gospel!

Cycle Heatmaps:
Heatmaps can be useful to show the routes where people are riding. Both Strava and Ride with GPS (RWGPS)
produce heatmaps of where riders on their respective platforms ride.
Note that heatmaps don't differentiate between different types of riders. Busy roads may be popular with
roadies riding in a bunch, and tracks through the bush with mountain bikers.
Use the info with caution, and in consultation with other sources.
If registered and logged in, the map will centre on your specified home location.
If not, type your location in the location box and press 'Go'.
We recommend selecting the 'OSM Cycle' rather than the default 'RWPGS' map layer.
If your current location data is enabled then the map will try and centre there. If not then it will default to the Parramatta area. Users need to be registered to zoom in.
Existing and Proposed Routes from 2016. Some proposed routes have been constructed, while others not marked on the map have gone in. See Open Street Map, centred on the Blacktown area, for a reasonably up-to-date map of current paths.
Bike Spot 2023 was an interactive map
that allowed every Australian to say where they felt safe or unsafe while riding their bike. The project aims to create a detailed picture of where people
love to ride, and where upgrades are needed to make cycling safe for everyone. The map closed for comments in Jan 2024, but can still be browsed.
Permanent Sydney Water Refill stations only. Note that there are many other publicly accessible water bubblers and taps around Sydney that aren't shown on this map.
This is a draft, with a larger area than just the city of Parramatta covered.
To view the map alongside the data, view on a desktop browser.
See Weride's BTA Analysis page for more details on the scheme. Open Street Map data is a major contributor towards the scores for the various cities and towns.
Addventageous is a Parramatta-based social enterprise helping build cycling skills & confidence amongst community members. One of their services is a community bike library.
Note: A CAMWEST member derives income from this business.
